Fun Valentine's Day Activities for Beginner Music Students
Valentine's Day is right around the corner, and you might be looking for some fun activities and resources to add to your lessons. Dive into what we have available here at the Paperless Piano Teacher Resource Zone! These resources are designed specifically for beginner and primer-level music students.
🎵 Note Naming Activities
Middle C, D, and E Worksheet
Help students identify the visual differences between Middle C, D, and E using this worksheet. While it doesn’t use the entire staff, it eliminates distractions and focuses on these three notes.
Middle C: Smaller ledger line
D: Space note
E: Longer line (bottom line of the Treble Staff)
Students search for each note and write the number they find in the box below.
Elephant Colouring Activity (C-D-E Focus)

Who doesn’t love colouring and elephants? This worksheet features C-D-E notes on the full Treble Staff. Use it in lessons or as a fun take-home activity!
C-D-E Sudoku
Sudoku might be one of my favourite activities! If you love laminating, get ready.
One version includes a partially filled-in box where students need to add the missing note. Each row must contain a C-D-E (in any order).
For an extra challenge, students can complete an entirely blank grid.
OR use the empty grid for a fun game of X’s and O’s!
F3 to G4 Colouring Activity
Students will color in the correct note name and then use those letters to complete a missing word.
Treble & Bass Clef Sorting Activity
This two-part activity allows for customization based on your students' levels.
Page 1: Cut out the Treble and Bass Clef notes and have students name them as they sort them into the correct columns.
Page 2: Notes are clef-less, so you can add clefs, or have students determine which clef to use before sorting.
📝 Music Terms
Valentine's Day Word Search

Who doesn’t love a word search? This activity is great for group lessons, independent work, or those moments when you need to write lesson notes or chat with parents.
Terms included: Forte, Piano, Slur, Fermata, Sharp, Flat, Staccato, Legato, Tie, Tempo, Scale, Interval.
🎶 Rhythm Activities
Beat Counting Worksheet
Using quarter notes, half notes, and whole notes, students add up the number of beats in each box and write the total in the circle.
Cut-and-Paste Rhythm Counting
A hands-on rhythm worksheet! Students cut out the numbers at the bottom and place the correct number in each box based on the beats.
Pattern Recognition Activity
Instead of counting beats, students will identify note patterns. Cut out the notes at the bottom, and have students place the correct note in each box based on what comes next in the pattern.
