Lesson Goal Planning
It’s important for the music lesson to have direction; that they work towards something. At the beginning of the school year, New Year’s resolutions or when you’re stuck in a rut, pull out this lesson goal sheet. Start by discussing the student’s plans and goals for the year. What are the longterm plans for this year? Exam, audition, big performance, composition, complete a level or a major work?
Once the big plans have been set, we can discuss smaller ones that can be accomplished quicker. Or small goals that can help us reach the bigger goals.
Discuss strengths to build on and weaknesses to tackle. It’s important to not just discuss these, but to also the plan on how we’re going to approach these. It’s okay to provide the student with a roadmap even if we change the route along the way.
Check things off as they’re accomplished. If you’re a teacher who likes to use reward systems, they can work towards that using this sheet. It can also be used to provide parents with status updates.
