RCM History 10: Overview Worksheet (Updated Edition)

Studying for RCM History 10 can feel overwhelming, but this updated version of my popular overview worksheet helps simplify the process! By filling in the blanks with the most essential information, you’ll create a structured foundation that makes memorization easier and less stressful.

We’re often told to think outside the box—but for this study method, we’re putting things IN a box to keep everything clear and organized.

How This Worksheet Helps You Succeed

🗂 Step 1: Learn the Four Eras Memorize the names and dates of the Middle Ages, Renaissance, Baroque, and Classical eras. (Check the video for a simple trick using just one key date and event!)

🎼 Step 2: Identify Major Genres Each era is defined by key genres. This worksheet helps you organize them:

  • Middle Ages & Classical → 6 major genres

  • Renaissance & Baroque → 4 major genres

🎶 Step 3: Associate Composers with Genres Rather than memorizing composers in isolation, learn them within the context of their genres—this makes recall more intuitive and helps connect key concepts.

📖 Step 4: List Required Listening Titles For each composer and/or genre, write down the required listening pieces and their key features. No need for definitions yet—just focus on identifying what you need to know.

Why This Worksheet Works

Breaks Down Memorization – Focus on small, manageable steps before diving into details.

Provides a Clear Roadmap – Know exactly what to study before moving on to deeper analysis.

Encourages Active Learning – Writing out information reinforces retention.

📌 Note: This worksheet follows the 2016 RCM syllabus, so be sure to check for updates when preparing for your exam.

By mastering the basics first, you’ll build confidence, reduce overwhelm, and set yourself up for success in RCM History 10! 🎶📚
